IFSEC International 2018 is set to be another impressive event, with an extensive seminar programme and a wide range of security products and services on show. While there is plenty to see across the show floor, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) also has some exciting events planned throughout the week.

The BSIA remains a prominent partner of IFSEC, with a variety of BSIA staff and members partaking in this year’s busy seminar and debate programme. As well as promoting the importance of choosing a reputable supplier and providing an exclusive lounge for members to relax in or hold meetings, there is the opportunity to take part in the following events at the BSIA stand, located at F630.

Over three days the BSIA will be showcasing its involvement in the Electronic Call Handling Operations (ECHO) project, which will be hosted by Director of Technical Services, David Wilkinson. There will be updates on our work on cyber security and changes to standards, and an opportunity to discuss Next Generation Networks (NGN). The BSIA stand will also play host to the new Head of SaferCash, Sarah Staff, who will be on hand to discuss the work of our joint industry and police intelligence sharing unit, and members will get the a chance to drop in to our ‘Question Time’ sessions, hosted by our Head of Membership, Sharon Mughal.

Speaking about the ECHO project, David Wilkinson, Director of Technical Services, BSIA, said: “The Electronic Call Handling Operation (ECHO) project looks to take up the challenge of integrated call handling. It is a real opportunity to generate significant savings in emergency response resources, both through fewer errors and a potential increase in the effectiveness of the emergency response by all participating services.

“Taking the longer view its potential is immense, with critical infrastructure across all sectors of society, from hospitals to heritage all potentially benefitting from enhanced alarm transmission.”

“The BSIA looks forward to meeting with members and interested parties at IFSEC to discuss the ECHO project further.”

Regarding the latest on NGN, Stephen Lampett, Technical Officer, BSIA said: “There’s been a lot of talk in the industry about the PSTN switch off and upcoming changes happening to the telephone network, and at IFSEC the BSIA will be on hand to discuss how these changes will impact on your business.”

“We look forward to providing you with all the information you need to plan the switch from analogue to an ALL-IP digital network for your new and existing alarm signalling systems.”

Finally, showcasing the work of SaferCash, Sarah Staff, BSIA, said: “I am delighted to be attending IFSEC for the first time to discuss the work of SaferCash. SaferCash is an intelligence sharing collaboration between industry and police that is able to draw information and intelligence together and to assist in ensuring early industry prevention and early police intervention thus reducing the overall risk and costs of crime to both industry and the community.”

“This continued collaboration helps reduce the impact of crimes committed on the cash and valuables in transit industry.”

James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA, said: “Promoting best practice and high quality standards is a key focus of the UK’s private security industry, and the BSIA has led the way in educating buyers about the importance of considering more than just the initial purchase price when making procurement decisions.”

“Representing hundreds of the UK’s quality security providers, the BSIA’s stand is an ideal port of call for buyers seeking a reputable and reliable security provider. Association members adhere to strict standards and enjoy an enviable reputation for producing high quality goods and services.”

“IFSEC International 2018 is set to be another impressive event, with an extensive seminar programme and a wide range of security products and services on show. We look forward to meeting you there.”
