ASIS International is getting ready for the next edition of its flagship event in Europe. ASIS Europe 2019 – From Risk to Resilience - taking place on 27-29 March, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, will start with a morning focused on cities of the future.

Theo Veltman, Innovation Rainmaker at the municipality of Amsterdam, will set the scene for the conference by sharing Amsterdam’s vision: From Smart City to Smart Society. Theo will give insight into: quality of life issues addressed by smart approaches; where the city is in its strategy implementation; how the roles of citizens, public and private companies, and government interact with one another; and key technology concerns. 

He will be followed by Arnoud Molenaar, Chief Resilience Officer, City of Rotterdam, who will cover how Rotterdam is implementing Resilient City methodology, what the related technologies are, how this is changing day to day and business life in the city, and what is expected in the next 3 years.

The two keynotes will then join a panel chaired by 2019 ASIS International President, Christina Duffey, CPP, which will explore the cities’ visions from the perspective of security leaders. The panel will address key questions around the role of security and how security leaders and their teams will need to adapt as our cities evolve.

Across more than 50 educational sessions, the program will cover technology as a friend and foe including focused sessions on AI and drones, and critical and emerging risks including a training on Chem-Bio Terrorism.

Leadership and management topics also feature strongly, with sessions on soft skills, securing an innovation culture, and panels on constructing teams and working in collaboration with consultants.

Eduard Emde, CPP, Head of the Health, Safety and Security Section, ESA/ESTEC and ASIS Europe 2019 Conference Chair, states, “Rapid, interconnected change, and shifting perceptions of risk and value are key challenges for us as security practitioners. We will examine evolving security challenges from the perspective of leaders tasked with protecting their organisation’s reputation and most precious assets in a manner that drives business, organisational and cultural goals.”

The event will feature an exhibition and Innovation Track presenting solutions to today’s complex, connected challenges, a Career Center for coaching, skills, and career advice, plus exclusive networking opportunities for CSO Center members.
