British Safety Council announces the winners of the 2016 Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour awards

The British Safety Council has announced the winners of this year’s Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour awards for the exemplary management of health, safety and environmental risks by businesses around the world. The 64 Sword of Honour and 18 Globe of Honour winning companies have demonstrated to an independent adjudication panel a proven track record of excellence in managing risks to workers’ health and safety and/or to the environment from the organisations’ activities.

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, said: “On behalf of the trustees and staff of the British Safety Council, I would like to congratulate those winning organisations and their staff for their huge commitment to keeping their workplaces safe and healthy and minimising risks to the environment from their organisations’ day-to-day activities.
This year’s result has proven that the imperative that that no-one should be injured or made ill at work is increasingly recognised throughout the globe. ‘The best of the best’ performers in health, safety or environmental management, who won the 2016 Sword of Honour and Globe of Honour awards, are at the forefront of achieving safe, healthy and sustainable workplace and business practices.
The awards process and the final ceremony represent an opportunity to celebrate their success and encourage other organisations everywhere to follow their lead, as we know the business case for good health and safety is strong. The more we can do to promote these awards and learn from the winners, the more we can do to protect both workers and the environment.”

The winning organisations came from a wide range of industry sectors in the UK, mainland Europe, India and the Middle East, including construction, education and training, energy generation and distribution, food and drink, leisure, logistics, manufacturing, major hazards, retail and transport.
