Dear Readers,

Last year, most companies were talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI). It left us editors with the impression that it is really coming to life now and that self-learning robots are not a phantasy anymore. Astonishingly enough, no machine has taken over the world yet. Realistically, security companies referred to AI when deep learning technologies became useful for security applications and when they could draw conclusions from incoming data. The ability to make use of the data, collected by more and more advanced technologies of video cameras, for example, confronts security companies with the question: What now?

The reasoning with this question is something GIT SECURITY has experienced on exhibition floors in 2019: Deep learning technologies have shown how much data can suddenly be analyzed and how much potential is still untapped. But the companies now have to think about how to come together, because only together they can evaluate most of the data in the best possible way.

Maybe, we should not talk artificial intelligent robots into existence, but instead we can talk to each other about it to awaken the huge available potential.

Companies are indeed figuring out how to face changes in the industry. Gerard Fígols, European Category Owner Security at the Panasonic Business Europe, for example, explained to GIT SECURITY: ‘The trend of security business needs to go towards IoT. Security cameras, for example, collect so much data, but companies are still not able to govern the data properly. It needs to be well-managed and the security sector is not yet ready to deliver this potential.’ Read how Panasonic establishes a new company to operate their Security Systems Business.

Interoperability, IoT and improved analytics are factors which also touch the access control market. As organizations incorporate analytics into their access control systems, they will improve security and personalize the user experience while driving better business decisions.
