GIT SECURITY EMEA News September 2019

Dear Reader,

Do you remember the start of ONVIF in 2008, when a small group of manufacturers started collaborating to accelerate the acceptance of systems based on network surveillance cameras?

A lot of people were questioning the chances for a success. ONVIF's mission hasn’t changed much, but its application and influence has: now it is an industry alliance for the physical security industry, as a nearly 500 members strong organization with more than 13,000 ONVIF conformant products. In his article, Bob Dolan, Vice Chairman of the ONVIF Technical Services Committee looks back and the start and gives an outlook of the future.

Standardisation is an important task in fire safety, too. After its work on the European Norm, EN 16763, the Section Services of Euralarm convinced standardisation organisations to start working on a European standard on remote services for fire safety and security. With these, the section targets at getting all service providers answering to the same quality requirements. The Joint Technical Committee 4 under the umbrella of CEN Cenelec is now working to develop and maintain a standard for requirements for the provision of secure remote services for fire safety and security systems. Halfway the process Euralarm’s Mr. Bernd Giegerich provides the industry with an update in his article.

Best regards

Heiko Baumgartner for GIT's safety and security team
