Sepura: SCU3 Broadband Vehicle Device

Device Receives GCF Certification

Sepura’s SCU3 broadband vehicle device has successfully demonstrated compliance with the Global Certification Forum’s (GCF) technical requirements for the certification of devices incorporating 3GPP technologies and functionalities, ensuring its compatibility for use on mobile networks around the world using 2G, 3G and 4G technologies.

The SCU3 has been designed for use in vehicles and/or fixed office locations and supports Mission Critical Voice (MCPTT) and data (MCData) features. Built on the market-leading Android operating system, the device provides compatibility with a wide range of applications which have been designed to run on existing Android smartphones and tablets.

The new device is Sepura’s first broadband vehicle offering, and represents an evolution of its proven TETRA solutions, deployed today by more than two million public safety and mission critical users around the world.

GCF certification ensures compliance with a set of cellular network standards and is mandatory for devices requiring connection to mobile networks. The award of the certification ensures that Sepura’s first LTE device can now be deployed by mission critical customers around the world.

The SCU3 provides the audio quality and hardware reliability that Sepura has built its reputation on, with the additional benefit of powerful data capability. As travel restrictions start to return to pre-pandemic levels, we are looking forward to initiating customer trials, enabling users to see first-hand the capability of these new devices.”

Peter Hudson, Chief Technology Officer at Sepura, added: “We are delighted that the SCU3 has achieved its GCF approval, and we look forward to deploying the units with customers very soon. The SCU3 offers mission critical users a pathway to LTE technology, upholding Sepura’s tradition of making technology firsts for the benefits of our customers.”

GCF Certification verifies the interoperability of wireless devices with network elements and infrastructure equipment from different suppliers, ensuring compatibility across networks and with different devices and services.

The GCF philosophy of “Test, Certify, Connect” provides confidence in device interoperability, and delivers significant value to the billions of customers worldwide who use a GCF certified device.
