Artec Technologies AG: Hybrid And Multieyed - digital video surveillance. Artec technologies develops, produces and distributes software based solutions including additional hardware components as well as complete systems in the areas of digital video surveillance- and video technology. Also part of the company’s portfolio of products and services: Digital transmitting and recording technology of audio and video content for intranet and internet communication, e.g. IPTV (Digital Streaming Video). One of the top products is Multieye – a software for creating digital video recorders with up to 32 channels.

The company history of Artec goes back to the year 1987 when its predecessor Hoffmann Trading was founded under the name Security Ltd. In 2000, Artec Technologies took over the business of this company – now Hoffmann New Energy. In the business division Digital Video Security the company develops, produces and distributes software based components under the brand name Multieye.

Together with hardware components they are the basis for complex digital and hybrid video surveillance and security systems. More than 10.000 systems were delivered so far – especially used in the areas of security services, documentation of process reliability according to ISO 9000 etc., production control, logistics and facility management.

The company developed a platform that enables the integration of different hard- and software components to an all-embracing security system including various optical and biometrical analyzing procedures for preventive security.

In Supermarkets and Production Plants

With the third generation of the Multieye-Hybrid DVR up to 32 analogue and network cameras (IP) can be combined and operated in a system as well. The recorder can administer and record both analogue video as well as network cameras. This means that existing analogue video surveillance systems can simply and effectively be combined with and integrated into new innovative IP systems – securing past and future investments.

Multieye is available since 1999. It is implemented in thousands of systems throughout Europe: in shops, supermarkets, museums, gas stations, parking garages, airports, power plants, banks as well as in industrial production facilities. Customers appreciate an excellent image quality, simplicity of operation and high functional security.

Analogue and Digital World Combined

The Multieye System connects the analogue with digital and IP-based video surveillance world and combines physical with virtual security. And it makes video surveillance a true information technology for the protection of people and property, as well as for the control of business processes.

Flexibility and scalability are also major strengths: The ready-to-run Hybrid or NVR recorders are available as standalone units, DVR software for the creation of own DVR and NVR solutions, for example with the framework of existing PC and server technologies. The modular hardware and software construction enables the creation and implementation of tailormade solutions, modified to meet special customer needs.

Multieye supports IP cameras at resolutions up to 11 million image dots (pixels). Compared with tradtional recordings in PAL-quality, the video images provide 14 times more content, or almost three times as much as HDTV. Thanks to the digital zoom function, the number of cameras required – and thus the costs – of a video surveillance system, can be considerably reduced.

Comfort and Economic Efficiency

Strong emphasis was placed on simple, practicable and efficient handling and information management during development. Procedures are performed via an intuitively operable and multifunctional graphic user interface whose layout can be adapted to individual requirements as well as to the user’s personal habits and language.

Efficient event and information management ensures that users are kept informed about relevant processes at all times – regardless of whether they are sitting in front of the monitor or receiving messages by means of E-mail, SMS or other applications.

At the end of the day, however, the economic efficiency of a system is decisive. That is why the company is emphasising an excellent pricevalue relation during the entire life cycle of the system.

Digital Streaming Media

Another important business area of the company is developping digital streaming media: The self-developed multimedia platform XentauriX features a wide range of capabilities by using a “Streaming technology”.

Application are especially found in internet based television (IPTV), operation of internet based video stores (Video on demand), operation of personal, internet based video recorders as well as the recording of lectures (technical condition for so called elearning).

The XBL Broadcast logger enables TV broadcast stations to meet the legal demands of recording and filing their broadcasts.

Time-Shifting

One of the latest projects of the company is the establishment of a Media Data Center for Internet TV and Video Surveillance, the MDSC in Dresden. This is one of the largest Multimedia Data and Service Centers in Europe – it provides all services related to network based transmission of TV, video, audio and media data for IPTV and video security.

Core technologies for the project are the indexing procedure for media contents developed by Artec Technologies, as well as its CVoD (Continuous video on Demand) technology, patented in Germany. The pivotal feature of this technology is its capability to call up and play back timeshifted contents even when they are still being recorded.

In the area of digital TV, this function is known under the concept of timeshifting: Viewers can turn on broadcasts which are already running and yet still watch them right from the very beginning. The running program can bepaused at any time so that required scenes can be called up and viewed.
