Apollo Fire Detectors: Credit Card Centre Banks on smoke and heat detectors. Bank of Communications (BOCOM) in China is a nationwide, state-owned and joint stock commercial bank. Established early in 1908 it has its head office positioned in Shanghai, China’s economic, financial and business center. As one of the leading banks of China, BOCOM has been rated by world famous journals as the best bank of China for two times. The Shanghai Branch has over 130 operational outlets, the business of which covers the Yangtze Delta areas. Since this year 450 analogue addressable XP95 smoke and heat detectors from Apollo secure the Bank of Communication’s Credit Card Centre in Shanghai. The intelligent fire detection system includes 383 optical smoke detectors, 72 heat detectors, 58 manual call points, 73 switch monitors, seven mimic repeaters and two fire alarm panels.

Sensitive Data Needs a High Grade of Protection

Covering over 22,300 m2 and housing over 4,000 employees, the building acts as the global data centre for the Bank of Communications’ credit card customers worldwide. “Due to the highly sensitive nature of the stored data, the safety and integrity of the building’s infrastructure is absolutely essential,” commented Mike Lam, Apollo’s Director of Marketing in China.

“For this reason the client required an internationally recognised supplier of high quality, reliable fire detection equipment.” He continued: “There were two reasons why our products were selected for this prestigious project: Apollo’s reputation for excellence and its long-established presence in China.”

The current installation comprises the first phase of an ongoing expansion of the Credit Card Centre. Phase two, which is currently under construction and for which Apollo will also be providing the fire detection equipment, will cover an additional 20,000 m2 and house nearly 4,000 additional employees.

Apollo’s XP95 analogue addressable intelligent smoke and heat detectors have a digital open protocol. Systems using a digital protocol are much less susceptible to corruption than analogue protocols and are therefore often preferred in life critical systems.

A unique, patented address mechanism, the Xpert card, ensures that the address data is stored in the detector mounting base, while at the same time keeping the base free of electronic parts that could be damaged during installation.
