Genetec: IP video surveillance for Chodov shopping complex. Genetec’s IP video surveillance solution Omnicast has been selected to secure the state-of-the-art Chodov shopping complex in Prague, Czech Republic. The Chodov is a multifunctional centre that includes boutiques, restaurants, apartments, office space, and an entertainment complex.

Now in its first phase of construction, the centre will cover a surface area of 55,000 m2 spread throughout four floors and will include 210 stores, 10 restaurants, six coffee shops and a parking facility with a capacity exceeding 2,600 vehicles. The second phase of the complex will add another 50,000m2 and will include apartments and office units. The third phase will provide space for additional stores, apartments and office space within a 20,000 m2 surface area.

Once completed, the Chodov shopping complex will cover 145,000 m2. Chodov’s administrators selected Omnicast as the solution of choice to manage all 238 cameras currently monitoring the complex. As the various phases are initiated, the Omnicast system will scale progressively in step with the centre’s physical expansion.

Omnicast 3.5 is an enterprise IP security solution providing seamless management of video, audio and data across IP networks. CPE, distributor of Genetec solutions within Eastern Europe, is responsible for the implementation of Omnicast at Chodov. This installation marks one of the first true end-to-end IP solutions, from camera to workstation, for a retail application in the Czech Republic.

The system will include eight servers, including seven archiving servers with a total storage capacity of 14.2 terabytes. This archiving capacity allows the Chodov Centre to utilize their video security systems for live viewing as well as forensic investigation purposes.

The system also includes a failover directory, which ensures continuous 24/7/365 system operations. The Omnicast solution at the Chodov fully integrates numerous third party systems, including the fire prevention system, providing security personnel with the ability to assess and respond to all security events via a single workstation.
