Peltor: headsets and adapters for high noise environments. When inspecting an aircraft before and after flights, when handling luggage near aeroplanes and in many other situations at airports, you need to be as visible and communicative as possible to prevent incidents. Peltor has developed a series of highly visible hearing protectors and headsets. The Hi-Viz series comes in the same yellow signal colour that is normally used in the safety gear of these professionals. Both, hearing protectors and headsets for ground handling, are available in this colour. Just as the connection cable to the aircraft.

For many years now, aircraft personnel have dealt with wired communication systems during pushback operations. Wire-based systems are difficult and costly to maintain and frequently lead to less than optimal communications. They are also not affected by inclement weather, such as nearby thunderstorms, and frequently abandoned while operators resort to less functional “hand signals” for communication.

Approved Bluetooth Technology

Peltor is well known among aviators as high quality aviation headsets and hearing protectors. Its new Ground Mechanic WS (wireless solution) headset features Bluetooth technology, so users never have to worry about cords and wires. Everything works wirelessly, with a range of about 10 m or more around the WS adapter.

Peltor is the first company in the world to use Bluetooth in ground handling and pushback. Once the headset and adapter have been paired, the user only needs to switch the units on and they automatically connect. A simple press of a button on the shell, or on an external PTT button, lets the user communicate directly with the cockpit.

Volume is easy to adjust with a plus/minus button on the side of the shell. The new Bluetooth wireless system eliminates maintenance cost for replacing damaged wires and can normally be used when other wired systems would require “hand signal” modes of operation. Additionally, the push-back operator is no longer “tethered to the plane” and restricted to working within a couple of metres of his push-back vehicle. The advantages of the system in a short overview:

  • eliminates costly wire repairs and maintenance of wires,
  • allows for use when some wired systems could not be used i.e. nearby thunderstorms,
  • push-back operator no longer tethered to vehicle for communications,
  • headset in Hi-Viz colours for visibility,
  • protects hearing with SNR of 31 dB.

The Ground Mechanic WS is an approved hearing protector with high attenuation values for extremely noisy environments. The microphone is ambient-noise compensated and top quality.

All together, this is unique equipment for an extreme environment.
