Fiera Milano Tech: Homeland Security is the main focus of Sicurezza 2008. This years Sicurezza will be held from 25th to 28th November at Fiera Milano, Rho. It is the only International exhibition for this sector to take place in Italy and has been attracting personnel from the anti-intrusion, fire-fighting, passive defence as well as home & building automation sectors for over 25 years. The choice of dates has been formulated by Fiera Milano Tech in conjunction with several exhibitors and takes into consideration, amongst other factors, the international programme of events and organisational aspects, so that now the exhibition returns to its “historical” period.

New Exhibition Areas in 2008

During the 2008 edition, Sicurezza will evolve further by dedicating new exhibition areas to products and services of excellence specifically designed for intelligence, anti-terrorism, The Local Police Force and private surveillance. Within this context, and also taking into account the fact that the show will run in conjunction with Sicurtech Expo (the international exhibition dedicated to safety issues), a multifaceted project focussing on Homeland Security will be accomplished which sets out to portray the exhibition as the international rendezvous for participants to exchange and compare ideas, whereby the most advanced countries will be able to introduce their own products and systems of excellence.

The companies offering systems and products associated with Homeland Security will be accommodated in pavilion 22, together with personnel from the institutions and the Police Force, which represent their potential customers.

Homeland Security Focus

The Homeland Security project includes the combined formula of seminars and round tables, which will allow personnel to compare different types of experience gained from the use of technologies, operational techniques and organisational models. In particular, topics such as port, airport and infrastructure security will be tackled with a presentation of case histories.

A session focussing on forensic & investigative science is also expected to take place. A number of examples will be presented within this context, namely, the twinning of the two ports of Miami and Naples and the experience gained by staff at the US and Israeli airports (in some cases via the use of biometrics) compared with the experience acquired at Malpensa and Pisa.

As far as infrastructure is concerned, both Russia and Israel will present their case histories, whilst the UK Ministry of Defence and the Italian Police Force will relate their own experience on the topic of forensic and investigative science. Promotional activity associated with intelligence and anti-terrorism has been strengthened as part of an exhibition advertising campaign in the United States, the UK and Israel, i.e. countries which are considered to be the most advanced in terms of this specific sector which deals with Homeland Security.

In particular, Fiera Milano Tech collaborates with the US Embassy, the UK Trade and Commercial Service, the Israeli Export Institute and the Italo-Russian Chamber of Commerce.

Italy for Sport

Sicurezza 2008 will present another brand new innovation in the form of the Italy for Sport project which is concerned with the security measures required for large-scale sports events. Fiera Milano Tech, in collaboration with ICE, the National Institute for Commercial Trade, will organise for a number of decision makers to participate in Sicurezza 2008; the high-profile representatives will be drawn from the most important international sports events such as, for example, the future World Cups (South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014), the European Championships (Poland-Ukraine 2012), the Winter Olympics (Canada 2010, Russia 2014) and the Summer Olympics (London 2012).

For the first time, the Sicurezza 2008 promotional activity will also benefit from a tour involving a cycle of exhibition preparatory events, to be held in both Italy and abroad, known as Aspettando Sicurezza (Looking forward to Sicurezza). Many of these initiatives will be developed in collaboration with the sector’s principal associations, regulatory and certification bodies as well as testing organisations.
