At Security Essen 2018, Magos will present state-of-the-art radar technology for perimeter security applications while welcoming visitors to their stand (Hall 7, Booth 7F34).

From the Military to vertical Markets
So far, radar technology has been commonly used in government and military applications, giving the misconception that it is only applicable for high-level deployments. However, their capabilities are used also in the security market such as ports, data centers, oil and gas refineries, logistic centers and education campuses.

Why Radar and not Camera?
Current security solutions include mostly cameras that provide partial coverage only due to limited field of view and degraded operation in certain weather conditions such as rain and fog. Moreover, dozens of cameras are required to cover wide perimeter – ending up in high costs of installation and maintenance.

The Possibilities of Radar
Magos radars can detect humans or vehicles up to 1000 meters away, alerting security forces long before they reach the boundary. Their wide coverage of 120-degrees in azimuth and 30-degrees in elevation, make it an ideal system for such perimeter applications, optimally covering areas despite changing topography. 

Integrating this technology with pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras enables slew-to-cue capabilities, allowing security personnel to have eyes on exactly what the radar is tracking for maximum situational awareness.

Installation Examples
The radars have been installed in over 30 countries in various verticals.

For example, less than 20 radars were installed in a high traffic Latin American port, replacing over 110 VMD cameras and covering about 8KM - Saving enormous costs in the short and long terms (figure 1).

Farms in Africa have been exposed to intrusions for decades. These circumstances lead to a rising immediate need for an efficient perimeter security solution that could eventually save farmers’ life. Currently, most farms, which have only installed electric perimeter fence and or VMD cameras, report that these solutions are insufficient and therefore examine additional and alternative options.

In one of those farms, 4 SR500 Magos radars were installed in four spots on site’s corners, providing coverage of critical zones, preventing intruders approaching the fence and saving high costs of patrolling groups and monitoring teams (figure 2).
