 As the whole world is sparing no effort to lead "The 4th Industrial Revolution Era," "Security" is stated to be the critical item for the successful settlement of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Also, "Smart City," one of the core infrastructures of the 4th industrial revolution, is pointing out a solution for various security threats as the first condition.

To meet this worldwide trend, Secon 2018, covering security solution and technology response to various security threats, opened on 14th March 2018 at Kintex, Korea. Co-operated with UBM, Secon 2018 brought many leading security companies and provided an export platform for the Korean security industry.

The 2018 show attracted 433 companies from 12 countries including Belgium, China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, UK, UAE, and USA etc introducing more than 2,000 security products including Video Surveillance, IT Security, Homeland Security, Industry Security, IoT Security, and Social Security System.

According to the post-show statistics, visitor entry counting from all gates breaks 46,324 in total during the whole exhibition period, the hosting buyers and visitors from 25 countries and regions who are mainly from Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, China, Singapore, USA, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong etc.

The opening ceremony of Secon on 14th March 2018 started with the opening speech from Mr. Jong-In Lim, the head of the Secon Organising Committee. Then Mr. Yoon-Kee Chung, the director of General e-Government Bureau from Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Mr. Hwang-Jung Yang, Assistant Minister of ICT Policy from Ministry of Science and ICT, and Mr. Byeong-Kwon You, Deputy Minister, Territorial and Urban Development Office from Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport gave congratulatory speeches. Also, Mr. Jong-Kul Lee, the Congressperson of the National Defense Committee and Ms. Sun-Mi Jin, the Congressperson of Public Administration and Security Committee delivered words of encouragement.

Mr. Jong-In Lim, the head of the SECON organising committee, said: "Secon and eGisec positioned as the most representative consolidated security exhibition not only in Korea, but also in Asia. Especially, the 2018 show is really meaningful as we hold the "Private Security – Public Safety MOU” signing ceremony between Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and Korea's representative consolidated security service company and award ceremony in city security control field managed by Ministry of the Interior and Security. We will do our best to make Secon as a security business hub in Asia continuously.”

Secon 2018 also prepared 8 of special experience zones for this year, where visitors could participate and widen understanding of security and safety. "Bluetooth Hacking Experience Zone" demonstrated automobile and smartphone hacking using the weak points of bluetooth. In "Security DIY Experience Zone," visitors learned about network and security settings through installation of router and IP camera, and in "Ransomware Experience Zone," visitors could easily learn and experience security.

In terms of Secon 2018, one of the notable points is the invitation of overseas delegations and buyers based on strong overseas network of Secon. Especially, a large number of government ministries and security associations from Southeast Asian countries, such as Ministry of Home Affairs Malaysia, Royal Malaysia Police, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Chamber of Security Industry etc, attended the show.

Regarding MMDA from the Philippines, they had meetings with Seoul Metropolitan Government and Daejeon Metropolitan City to discuss building a Smart City in the Philippines in the near future, strategic business cooperation between cities and various related issues at Secon 2018. In addition, the Royal Malaysia Police showed their interest in counterfeit money detection technology developed by National Forensic Service and shared information of criminal investigation techniques with the National Forensic Service.

Overseas delegations who attend Secon 2018 through Hosted Buyer Programme operated by Secon 2018 Secretariat had more than 250 meetings with the exhibitors. Mr. Faisal Mohammed Ali from Genex Middle East, which is security products distributor based in UAE, mentioned: “There were the state-of-the-art security technologies reflecting IoT technology and devices in Secon 2018.”

To offer more chances and priority to exhibitors which continuously grow up the business in Korea, the Onsite Sales Office was operated at Secon 2018. As a result, more than 50% of exhibitors including Hikvision, Dahua Technology, ZKTeco, Sunell, YTOT, Suprema, Honeywell, and other global security brands and companies confirmed booth participation and reserved the space onsite for Secon 2019.

Meanwhile, Secon 2019 will be held from 6th to 8th March 2019 at Kintex, Seoul, Korea. Secon has been growing by more than 13% every year, and both exhibitors and buyers were very satisfied with the show. Especially, as the number of overseas exhibitors and buyers keep increasing through co-operation with UBM. Also, Secon is evaluated as an exhibition where solid business meetings and real purchase orders occur continuously.
